The Association for Foreign Capital Coordination's (AFCC/YASED) invitation to produce a survey of the foreign direct investment firms operating in Turkey could not have arrived at a more opportune time. Immersed in the relevant literature, I had, independently, prepared a prototype questionnaire, and had a limited test of it by the aid of my students. To develop a more comprehensive version, I benefited from the generously provided expertise of Aslı Başgöz (White and Case), Şaban Erdikler (Arthur Andersen), Mehmet Tanberk (Roche) and Derek Staveley (Unilever). Dr. Abdurrahman Arıman, the general secretary of the AFCC/YASED, and his staff provided able support in the search for the names and telephone numbers of the top managers who were then notified of the impending field study. I would like to thank Dr. Arıman and the AFCC/YASED Board for their gracious patience in awaiting the study's outcome. Dr. Yarkın Cebeci, my research asistant, worked meticulously in entering the data to the computer and running the tests. Esra Kahraman's excellent typing skills made life much easier. Finally, Margaret Kirk edited the text swiftly, providing delighful notes as a bonus. (Kitabın Girişinden)
