“And then Master, Luca Pitti ordered Flippo to build for him outside of the gate of San Nicolo at Florence, in a place known as Ruciano, a rich and magnificent palace... but greater in size than that already begun for him in Florence and raised to two floors...” So wrote Vasari. It was on August 1, 1461, that the Florentine signory ceded to Luca Pitti, renowned and redoubtable gonfalonier of the Republic, a piece ofland for the construction of a new, larger and more splendid dwelling.
