The winter of 1984 - 1985 proved disastrous for Bulgarian Turks. The Muslim - Turks of Bulgaria, who have been living in that coyntry for the last six centuries were crushed under tank plates and tifle butts, and their Muslim - Turkish names were replaced by force with Salvic - Bulgarian ones. Many people in the world were surprised at the bloody tragedy staged by the Bulgarians. It was incoprehensible for a lot people; and some didn't want to believe the news because such a sudden manifestation of savagery was indeed surprising. Besides, relations between Turkey and Bulgaria seemed very cordial at that juncture. (Introduction)
