This book is proceedings of the 16th Annual Conference of the Global Communication Association titled 'The Future(s) of Communication: Promises and Predicaments,' that was hosted by Marmara University Faculty of Communication in May 15-17, 2024. GCA, established in 2007, serves as a non-profit organization facilitating interaction among esteemed academics, corporate executives, communication experts and policymakers worldwide through conferences and academic journals, fostering the generation of new ideas and enabling free debate. The conference has seen participation from fifteen countries including the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, Kenya, Iran, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, India, Morocco, Qatar, the Philippines, Finland, Saudi Arabia, Norway, and our country. Additionally, academics and communication experts from a total of 30 universities, including twenty-three from abroad and seven from Türkiye, contributed to the event.
The conference featured eight panels on various topics: the Democracy Crisis and Media; Journalism in the Digital Age; Media Psychology and Representation; Communication and Sustainability; Public Relations and Crisis Communication; Politics, Communication, and Media Literacy; Social Media, Gender, and Society; and Artificial Intelligence and Communication. The evolution of the Association's publication, Global Media Journal, which operates in 16 countries, was discussed in a separate panel.
