Anatolian carpets may be divided into three broad categories - Western, Central and Eastern - on the basis of their distinguishing regional features. The examples presented in this catalog are members of a collection of pieces that share common elements of design, pattern, color, and texture and that were woven, most probably between 17th and 19th centuries, in the region bounded by Konya, Karaman, and Nevşehir in Central Anatolia.

Each one being a unique and original work of art, most of them having never been published before, all treated with modern concepts of conservation at textile museums and forming the most comprehensive group specific to this type and region, the collection appear as a unitary and coherent group.

The main characteristics of these Konya-Cappadocia carpets which are closest to the kilims among Anatolian carpets in construction, purpose and shape, manifest itself in color and unique geometrical and traditional motives.
