La Vava de Estambol / The Granny from İstanbul is Roz Kohen's third book written in two languages, following a collection of childhood memoirs in Jewish İstanbul and stories about prior Jewish generations of İstanbul in Jewish Constantinople. The author's previous books, as well as La Vava de Estambol / The Granny from İstanbul, aim to capture the spirit of the Judeo-Spanish language as it was spoken for over 500 years by the Jewish communities in the Ottoman Lands.

La Vava de Estambol / The Granny from İstanbul is autobiographical and details the author's personal experience in her new homeland as an immigrant. Both Judeo-Spanish and its English translation is included to allow the future generations to become familiar with the folklore and culture of Jewish İstanbul, as well as the Jewish language, which was preserved for 500 years, but may inevitably become lost.
