The photogenic Thessaloniki has been, for the past ten years, our photographic "model"; attracting and charming us. Pictures of the city were also the subject of our work which has appeared in two albums and many popular magazines containing specials and articles on Thessaloniki. The city has reciprocated and still returns the love and devotion we have showed to her.
Through these years we became a part of the landscape and community of this city, managing to create a photographic archive of 10.000 slides and pictures from Thessaloniki and its surroundings. But we did not just look at the obvious; we searched for the soul of the city.
The little neighbourhoods of Thessaloniki that we loved most, those that impressed us most became the object of a second photographic project. This second venture also brought up the modern photographic and esthetic aspect of present day Thessaloniki. It was achieved using a panoramic camera, a technique similar to the 16:9 television technology, where the image is imprinted at a 90 degree angle, the angle of the human vision. This technique, resulting to oblong photographs, is a novelty for the Greek photographic album production.
Our photographs receive their "souls" from the texts of distinguished creators, worshipers of Thessaloniki, who have kindly vested their personal views for this city. We thank them for honouring this edition and trusting us with their texts, written especially for the album now in your hands. We also thank all those who contributed in this edition and allowed us to share with you the emotions we felt on every "click" of our camera. They give us the strength to carry on with more albums of the "Greek Landscapes" series. - Giorgos and Giannis Zarzonis
